Well, another trip to northern Ontario is in the books. We went with two boats and 7 men. The weather cooperated for the most part. We had a day and a half of sun out of the four days, a lot of rain fell overnight, and a cold front swept in on the second last day. The nights were cool, especially for my brother who forgot his sleeping bag. This was my fourth year going and we spent far more time searching for big fish than ever before. We traveled over 15km from our camp and explored new bodies of water. The journey paid off in dividends! We increased our average walleye size to roughly 19" in the new section and landed more big fish than my previous three years combined. We had amazing fish fries and shared lots of stories during the thunderstorms.
So now for the highlights... our biggest fish was a monster 50" musky caught by yours truly, we had 2 other muskies over 40", one musky at 39" and the smallest was 30". Reports from the other boats were two big 40"+ fish lost by the boat. Our boat also lost a big pike. The biggest pike this year was 36". Biggest walleye was 24" and we had two perch around the 14" mark. Combined totals were around 275 fish caught over the three days of fishing, which is not bad considering we were kept off the water for good parts of Saturday and Sunday.
Looking forward to going after big ones again next year!
