yeah, I am heading down to wawanesa area for archery opener. Hoping for a velvet as well, normally when it is hot like this I would hit water, but so much water this year that they don't need to hit the obvious dugouts etc. Just gonna basically watch alfalfa fields and try to get the jump on them coming back to bedding areas early early in the morning.

well things didnt go as planned for me this year. seen sevral nice bucks but just couldnt close the deal. stalked to within 40 yrds of a doe and released and never even seen my arrow in flight. hit a twig 10 yrds away and the arrow was gone. she just ran 40 yrds and looked back and gave me a snort. it was kinda discouraging because the 3rd day didnt even see a deer. so the fourth morn i decided to sleep in and go for a drive around 8. went and checked my camera later that day and sure enough a deer walked by at 15 yrds where i shoulda been. that how it works though. better luck with the rifle i think.

Have a friend that just returned from Russel. Shot a 125-130 class in full velvet. He was ther 10 days I think, and saw 23 deer the whole time.

yeah, it was tough conditions for sure with the high heat. 28'C when I was near Brandon. Saw a nice one about 75 yrds out. Had a few does walk in close, coulda killed but wanted a velvet. Oh well, it was a good 3 day break from the north. But I am glad to be back looking for moose and chasing big pike and lakers.
