I have not had a successful season so far, been trying my hardest to make the most of my weekends, hunting friday evening, all day saturday and sunday mornings. Calling hasn't been overly successful, for me anyway. Some guys around here have called a few in, I guess I got to figure out their secret. I did go out this weekend with a buddy and we put in our best effort in the snow and freezing temps. All we saw was a young 6 month old bull calf. Fun to watch, he was in the same spot for 3 days, hopefully he isn't shot by anyone and will grow up for me for next year.
Here are some pics.

Here was our buddy for the weekend, hopefully he doesn't get shot, and he will grow into a nice big bull for me in two to three years. I sat and called and called near this location for two days and did not even get a response.

Just some more cool pics. I have some fun video files of me calling near our little friend, but it seems like when I load it it just comes up as a pic.

As far as location, have been hunting in area 4 and 7 for the most part. Not going to give away specific locations as I am hunting a very easy area to get to and I don't need any more company than I already have. However there are lots of good moose opportunities at drive to locations, just have to put the time in I think. I feel very compressed really only being able to hunt saturdays, cause from everything I have gathered, moose take a while to respond to the call in our area. Unless of course they are hot and heavy. So I would like a couple of days to work an area to give me the best shot at calling one in.

I did find a sweet swamp made by beavers though, there is a creek running into the main lake It would have a nice small little stream flowing down from it, but the beavers have blocked it off. I did not hunt it though cause it was like 5 ft deep of water, and I did not want to drop a moose in it. So I am thinking that with my trapping license going and ripping apart the dam and eradicating the beavers and selling them to a local trapper. And through out the summer just make sure that they are not back at it again. That would drain the swamp somewhat and make it easier to hunt.

O.k. but then I got to thinking that they might not even be in the swamps like that this time of year. I mean all the weeds and food has dried up in there and died. So wouldn't they mostly be concentrating on the willows on the lake shore and river shores? Or do they still relate to the swamps. Need all the help I can get here, trying to learn as much as I can.
