Took my wife out to the Odei for our first 'alone' fishing trip in a long time. (kids can really sucks sometimes). The day started off well with the sun shining and virtually no wind. Almost immediately after dropping anchor, the fish started coming. We caught half a dozen drums between 20-22" and the smallest sauger I have ever seen. By the end of the day, we had our limit of walleye. All of them were between 17-21" for the keepers.
Now for the highlights....
I hooked into a football shaped walleye that I actually mistook for a drum when it initially surfaced (don't judge me). When it surfaced again, I realized I had hooked up with a monster!!!! Landed a 28.5" hog for my second master walleye!!! About 20 minutes later, felt a fish on my hook, went to lift my rod, and it was like the fish was stuck to the bottom. This wasn't like any fish I had ever caught. There were no long peeling runs, and it just stayed under the boat. The fight was amazing!!!! Got the fish to the surface and discovered that I had caught my first ever sturgeon!!!! The beast was one of the heaviest I have ever caught. I measured in at 38.5", not a master, but still one of the most amazing fishing I have ever caught.
